Recently, the reporter conducted an exclusive interview with the relevant person in charge of the Three Gorges Group Basin Hub Operation Management Center.

  [Explanation] As a backbone project in the flood control system of the Yangtze River Basin, the Three Gorges Reservoir has a flood control capacity of 22.15 billion cubic meters. Through flood control, the flood control standard of the Jingjiang River section can be raised to a once-in-100-year flood. In the event of a once-in-1000 flood, With the coordinated use of flood diversion and storage areas, the safety of flood discharge in the Jingjiang River section will be ensured, and devastating disasters will be avoided due to the collapse of the main dikes on both sides of the north and south banks.

  In the event of a flood that has occurred more than once in a hundred years, with the cooperation of the flood storage area, the (Three Gorges Project) can avoid devastating disasters in the Jingjiang River section, and at the same time, it can also affect the flood disasters in the Chenglingji area and the downstream Wuhan area.   [Explanation] In 2010, 2012, and 2020, the maximum flood peak of the Three Gorges Reservoir exceeded 70,000 cubic meters per second. After the storage of the reservoir, the flood peak was reduced by about 40%, which greatly reduced the pressure on flood control in downstream areas and greatly reduced flood control. Risk and cost.

The Jianghan Plain and the Dongting Lake Plain have since become a confidant, becoming veritable "rice silos".

  In the process of flood control of the river basin in 2020, it (the Three Gorges Project) has successfully withstood five numbered floods. As of the end of 2020, the Three Gorges Project has been used for more than 60 flood arrests, and the total amount of flood arrest is about 186 billion cubic meters.

  [Explanation] The dam of the Three Gorges Hydropower Station has an elevation of 185 meters and a water storage elevation of 175 meters. 32 hydroelectric generating units with a single unit capacity of 700,000 kilowatts are installed.

The last hydropower unit of the Three Gorges Power Station was put into operation on July 4, 2012. It has become the world's largest hydropower station and clean energy production base, and has played an important role in optimizing energy structure and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.

In addition to the three main functions of flood control, power generation, and shipping, the "Optimum Dispatch Plan for the Three Gorges Reservoir" approved by the State Council in 2009 made it clear that water resource utilization is also one of the tasks of the Three Gorges Reservoir's dispatching.

In addition to normal replenishment of water downstream, the Three Gorges Project has also implemented other water resources utilization tasks such as salt-pressing tide dispatch, emergency drought-relief replenishment dispatch, ship rescue dispatch, and ecological dispatch.
