“Today, in the regions of the far north, especially where indigenous peoples live, there is a rather difficult situation with the confirmation of nationality.

The indigenous peoples of the north, who receive benefits and preferences from the state, really need to provide simpler documents that would confirm their right to receive state support measures, ”Bessarab said.

In her opinion, this initiative should be treated with caution.

“A number of secular multi-confessional countries do not just remove the“ nationality ”column, but even prohibit the indication of nationality, especially during the population census.

This is done in order not to create certain advantages, or vice versa, negative consequences.

It is possible, of course, at the request of the citizen to include such a column in the passport, ”the deputy added.

Earlier, the State Duma proposed a new column in the Russian passport.
