Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, will make his Formula 1 debut with the Haas team at the next Shakir Grand Prix, where he will replace Frenchman Romain Grosjean, who is out after the terrible accident he suffered this Sunday.

He will be replaced by Fittipaldi, 24 years old and this season as Haas test driver.

The Miami-born Brazilian won a 3.5 Formula V8 Championship title and has competed in several IndyCar events.

In addition, he is the grandson of Emerson Fittipaldi, who conquered F1 in 1972 and 1974.

"The most important thing is that Romain is safe and sound. We are very happy that his injuries are relatively minor after such a big accident. Obviously these are not the ideal circumstances to have my first opportunity to compete in Formula 1, but

I am extremely grateful to Gene Haas and Guenther Steiner for their faith in putting me behind the wheel this weekend,

"thanked the driver in a statement.

"Every driver dreams of racing in Formula One"

"I am prepared ... For me it is incredible. Since childhood, every driver dreams of racing in Formula One," the young man told the Brazilian newspaper

Estado de S.Paulo

.

"It is not the best circumstance, but the important thing is that Romain is fine. It could have been much worse. Thank God he is fine.

I will do my best in my first weekend in F-1,

" he added .

Pietro said that it is "great to be able to follow the path" of his grandfather Emerson, his great-uncle Wilson and his uncle Christian, all of the Fittipaldi lineage and riders at some point in the maximum discipline of world motorsport.

"I am very happy for the opportunity, for the confidence and for being able to represent Brazil on the Formula 1 grid. It is a great honor for me, I will do my best," he said.

Pietro has been a test driver for Haas for the past two seasons.

"You never know when the opportunity will come ... I was always preparing myself. I knew I needed to be ready for when I had to get into the car," said the one who will be the first Brazilian in Formula 1 since Felipe Massa left Williams team in 2017.
