In the first singles match in the Davis Cup final, the Russian national team's Andrej Rublyov, fifth in the world rankings, Croatia's Borna Gojo, ranked 297th in the world rankings.

Rublyov took 6-4 convincingly in the first set, but in the second set Gojo was hot and kept up with Rublyov.

With the Russian, he regained control of the match and also won the second set, with 7-6.

- It was a super tough match, Rubljov said in Eurosport after the match.

He continued:

- From the outside, it looks like I should have won easily, but Borna has played incredibly well the last two weeks.

He has beaten fantastic players.

In the final single match of the final, Daniil Medvedev, second in the world rankings, was placed against Marin Cilic, ranked 30. It was an even story initially, but the longer the match went, the bigger Medvedev's dominance became and he won 7-6, 6-2.

There was never a double meeting, with the two initial victories for the Russian national team.

The Davis Cup title is the first to go to Russia, which admittedly officially competes under a neutral flag, since 2006. The team beat Sweden in the quarterfinals.
