The Playstation 5 is expected for the holidays at the end of 2020. - SONY

While the release of the Playstation 5 is still scheduled for the end of 2020, information regarding this new console is leaked in dribbles. According to patents filed earlier this year, it is likely that the PS5 controller, the DualSense, is able to recognize players' hands, reports the Hitek site. The controller would validate its user simply by taking it in hand, which would allow the player to connect to his account without entering a password.

How is such a technological feat possible? The patents filed are based on the accelerometer, the gyroscope and the magnetometer of the joystick. Sony would also have studied the location of the player's left thumb and the pressure exerted on various buttons. The DualSense would work with a "compatibility score". In total, there would be at least five parameters taken into account to identify a player by simply taking the controller in their hands.

A technology not fully approved

In all likelihood, the user will certainly have to configure their controller so that they can recognize it, a bit like fingerprint or facial recognition sensors on current smartphones. However, nothing yet indicates that this technology will be present on this new controller, the registered patents not all being applied.

For the release of Playsation 5, all in white and black curves, Sony plans to design 25 new dedicated games. Players can also invest in headphones with 3D audio or in a camera that allows them to film themselves playing (to be broadcast live on the appropriate platforms).
