The

Popular Party has started a new municipal revolt against the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero,

after which it unleashed a historic parliamentary defeat of the Government last September.

The vice president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano

, sent a letter to the president, the socialist Abel Caballero on Tuesday, demanding "an urgent and extraordinary call from the Governing Board of the institution before the neglect and absolute disregard of the General State Budgets to municipalities and provinces ".

This was announced by the party in a statement after publishing this newspaper the settling of accounts made by Montero to the municipalities in the Budget project for 2021 that

excludes a promised municipal fund of 3,000 million, among other measures.

The Council of Ministers was limited yesterday to announce a subsidy of half a million euros to the FEMP "for the training of public employees."

For García Urbano, it is "unavoidable that the FEMP analyze these accounts that seem like a joke in bad taste and adopt the

appropriate measures in order to defend the municipal demands

that have remained in the pipeline after multiple promises that have been converted, once more, in smoke. "

The mayors of the PP maintain that "to this day the Local Governments still have not received a euro to fight the pandemic which, in their opinion, is a frontal attack on the Local Entities but, fundamentally, is an insult to the Spanish that depend on them to stay afloat during the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. "

For his part,

the spokesman of the PP in the FEMP and mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, criticized "the revanchism of the Minister

of Finance that severely punishes the Town Halls and Provincial Councils, leaving them without Covid funds for having rebelled against the attempted theft the municipal savings by the Executive ».

For Azcón, "the State accounts reflect that the Government has lied to Local Entities" and

gave

as an example that it

has assigned 18,793 million euros to the autonomous communities, which is 54% of European funds for 2021

, while for local corporations are 1,483 million equivalent to 4.28%.

Sources from the Ministry of Finance confirm that the promised municipal fund of at least 3,000 million is not foreseen in the Budget project, since the problem is considered resolved with the release of some 12,000 million remnants.

The mayors of the PP maintain that many municipalities do not have surpluses and have to face increasing expenses in the face of the pandemic due to, among other measures, the expansion of aid for food.

"The Government leaves the Spaniards in the lurch as the Covid-19 funds of unconditional aid promised for their municipalities and provinces have disappeared from the PGE. Neither for this 2020, nor for the next 2021, the municipalities and councils have received not one only one euro of the

unconditional funds of 5,000 million euros and 1,000 million euros to rescue urban transport "

, he emphasizes to Azcón.

For the mayor of Zaragoza, "municipalism is treated by the Government of Sánchez and Iglesias as a second-rate administration."

He also criticizes "the smoke" of the president of the FEMP.
