He who pays with other people's money buys many worries, says the English proverb.

A postwoman has just paid the price.

In Calvados, faced with the drop in income linked to the health crisis, the department has launched exceptional aid of 400 euros in recent months, in the form of solidarity checks valid at dozens of traders.

An employee of La Poste, "financially cornered", says

Actu.fr

, diverted some of these letters addressed to the poorest.

She was sentenced last week by the Caen Criminal Court for "theft and deletion of correspondence by a person charged with a public service mission" to six months in prison, suspended over a probationary period of twenty-four months and the prohibition to work at La Poste or in the civil service for five years.

She will have to pay La Poste 1,000 euros for image damage and almost as much for material damage.

She herself was in a precarious situation…

The forties is suspected of the theft of "12 solidarity checkbooks" addressed to people in precarious situations, because she herself is very fragile, explains

Tendance Ouest

.

The defendant explained that she was raising her 16-year-old son alone and not receiving child support from his father.

She justified having used the money "for essential purchases", but, if she admitted the theft of "two or three" checkbooks, the defendant suggested that the others could have been stolen by colleagues.

It was after complaints from beneficiaries who had not received them that an investigation had been launched and it had been discovered that most of these “lost” checkbooks concerned this postwoman's round.

Not being nominative, it suffices to present them to the merchants without an identity document being necessary.

Employee at La Poste since 2015, she was dismissed for serious misconduct.

At the same hearing, she was (also) accused of having falsified (in the process) her employment contract by adding an amendment to it, in order to obtain social housing.

She was finally released for this suspicion of “use of forgery”.
