Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The corona pandemic is causing low-skilled workers in particular to lose their jobs.

From March 2020 to February of this year, the number of unemployed in Hesse without special professional qualifications rose particularly sharply, as the regional directorate of the employment agency reported on Tuesday in Frankfurt.

In 2020, just under 88,500 helpers were registered as unemployed, making up well over half of all unemployed in the state.

According to the figures, the risk of job loss for unskilled workers was almost three times higher than for skilled workers.

At the same time, the chance of getting out of unemployment was significantly lower than with trained employees due to a lack of jobs.

Director Frank Martin appealed especially to young people to start an apprenticeship.

He explained: “It is a recurring phenomenon that people without training and formal qualifications lose their jobs, especially in times of crisis.

This also applies to the current situation.

With or without short-time work: companies usually hold on to their well-qualified specialists. "

Without training, there is a great risk of long-term unemployment.
