With 4,578 classes closed this week due to the coronavirus epidemic, or 0.9% of those in the country, the number is down by half compared to the previous week, in particular thanks to the new protocol, according to figures released this week. Friday by the Ministry of National Education.
Since November 29, there has been no class closure in primary schools from the first case of Covid detected in a student.
Two self-tests for sixth grade students
Only those who test positive are isolated. In detail, 33,550 cases were confirmed this week among students (or 0.27% of total students) and 2,145 among staff. The previous week, there were 21,976 cases of covid among students and 1,562 among staff. Nationally, this resulted in the closure of 4,578 classes, up from 8,890 the previous week. The new procedures also explain an increase in saliva tests performed: 227,717 between 22 and 29 November, against 190,487 the previous week.
The 6th grade students have been encouraged since Monday to carry out two self-tests per week, the ministry justifying this measure by the fact that the children in these classes are under 12 years old and are not vaccinated.
A new wave of Covid-19 is affecting France.
On Thursday, 48,416 cases were identified, for a daily average over 7 days of 36,700, against less than 6,000 a month earlier.
