With the heavy human toll - at least five dead and thirteen missing, the floods which devastated several valleys in the Alpes-Maritimes on October 2, also caused hundreds of millions of euros in damage.

In addition to the billion and a half euros needed to rebuild infrastructure, according to the Nice metropolis and the departmental council, the cost of repairs to insured property is estimated at around 210 million euros, the French Federation of insurance this Monday.

Mostly in homes

"In total, 14,000 claims should be recorded for a cost of insured damage which should reach 210 million euros," said the federation in a statement.

This amount is distributed “between damage caused to homes (72%), professional and agricultural property (25%) and cars (3%).

It does not include damage to public infrastructure that is not insured, ”the statement said.
