  On February 24, 2020, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress made the “Decision on the Total Banning of Illegal Wildlife Trade, Elimination of Bad Habits of Wild Animals, and Effectively Protecting the People’s Life, Health and Safety”. The Law on the Protection of Wildlife and other relevant laws The hunting, trading, transportation, and eating of wild animals must be strictly prohibited; the national protection of "terrestrial wild animals with important ecological, scientific and social value" and other terrestrial wild animals, including artificial breeding and artificial Raised terrestrial wild animals.

The "Opinions" proposes to severely crack down on illegal hunting and killing of wild animals in accordance with the law, and prevent and control illegal wildlife trade from the source; it requires that the illegal purchase, transportation, sale, import and export of wild animals and their products be severely cracked down in accordance with the law. Cut off the interest chain of illegal wildlife trade; emphasize the law to severely crack down on criminal acts of illegally buying wildlife for food or other purposes, and resolutely eliminate the bad habits of overeating wildlife.

8. New progress has been made in artificial breeding of giant pandas, with the total number of captive breeding reaching 633

  As of December 2020, my country has bred 44 live giant panda cubs throughout the year, and the total number of giant pandas in captivity has reached 633.

Nine artificially bred giant pandas were released into nature and successfully integrated into the wild population. The survival of captive giant pandas in their natural habitats and the rehabilitation of endangered small populations in the region have made breakthroughs.

Seven cubs with wild giant panda genes were introduced into the wild, and the genetic population structure of captive giant pandas was more optimized.

 9. Increase the protection of the Hainan gibbons and establish a conservation research center

  In August 2020, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration relied on the Hainan National Park Research Institute to establish the Hainan Gibbon Conservation and Research Center of the National Forestry Administration, aiming to attract and gather top talents and scientific research forces from around the world to work together to protect the Hainan Gibbon.

The Hainan Gibbon is a gibbon unique to China and one of the oldest surviving gibbons in the world. There is currently only one wild population (5 family groups) with more than 30 gibbons.
