When does it come into force?

  • SMI The Government promises to bring the Minimum Wage to 60% of the average salary, but 1,000 euros already represents 66.7%

The

minimum wage

in

France

will increase by 2.65% automatically

from May 1

, a monthly increase of about 34 euros net per month.

As announced this Friday by the Ministry of Labor, they have taken this decision as a measure to fight against the strong inflation registered since November.

With this modification, for a full-time worker, the monthly minimum wage will be 1,645.58 euros gross.

Net, it will go from 1,269 to 1,302.64 euros.

The minimum gross hourly wage will rise from 10.57 to 10.85 euros.

In France, the purchasing power of minimum wage workers is protected by an

automatic revaluation mechanism

enshrined in law, which ensures that the minimum wage rises at least as fast as the inflation affecting the lowest income households.

According to the final results of the consumer price index for March published by INSEE this Friday, inflation between November 2021 and March 2022 stands at 2.65% for the 20% of households with the lowest income.

In January, the minimum wage increased by 0.9%, after an exceptional increase of 2.2% in October also due to inflation.

In the annual comparison (from May 2021 to May 2022) the salary will have increased by 5.9%, that is, 72 euros per month.
