Benoît Payan does not let go of circuses.
The mayor of Marseille, openly opposed to the existence of circuses with animals, announced Friday on his Twitter account his intention to file a complaint against the Muller circus for animal abuse.
Last March, the elected official had already struck the same circus with a ban on receiving the public.
A previous conviction
This troupe is particularly known for staging Jumbo, a hippopotamus.
An animal rights association had already filed a complaint against the Muller circus for the mistreatment of their star animal.
Judged in 2020, the Valencia court had not retained the mistreatment, but had condemned the owners of the mammal for "use of an unsuitable mode of detention for the keeping of a tamed or captive wild animal".
