Jean-Claude Villemain, the PS mayor of Creil (Oise), appeared on Monday with a balaclava and thick gloves to announce the city's energy saving measures, reports BFMTV.

With this outfit, the city councilor wanted to "sing and mock the members of the government who we see arriving in turtlenecks and down jackets".

400,000 euros missing

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and President Emmanuel Macron recently appeared in these outfits to defend energy sobriety.

An approach that seems to have annoyed the elected official, whose city needs an additional 400,000 euros for its energy expenditure by the end of 2022.

To reduce this cost, it was thus decided to cut public lighting in the town from 00:30 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. from Friday.

According to Jean-Claude Villemain, this would not pose a security problem, most of the cameras in the city being infrared.

He also wanted all municipalities to be able to access the regulated electricity tariff, which is currently only the case for the smallest ones.
