The Macau SAR Government strongly opposes and regrets the passage of the so-called report concerning Australia by the European Parliament

  Xinhua News Agency, Macau, September 16th. The Macau Special Administrative Region government expresses its firm opposition and extreme regret to the European Parliament's adoption of the so-called "New Europe-China Strategy Report" involving Macau.

  The Macau SAR government stated that over the past 20 years since the return of Macau to the motherland, the principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people administering Macau", and a high degree of autonomy have been successfully implemented. The basic rights of SAR residents, such as the right to vote, are fully guaranteed by the Constitution and the Basic Law.

  The SAR government pointed out that the election of the seventh legislative council of the Macao SAR was carried out in an orderly manner in strict accordance with the "Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China" and the "Law on the Election of the Legislative Council of the Macao Special Administrative Region." The election team conducted election activities in accordance with the law, and all sectors of the Macau society and the majority of residents actively participated in the election, so that the election was held smoothly in an atmosphere of fairness, justice and integrity.

  The SAR government emphasized that the election of the Legislative Council of the Macao Special Administrative Region is entirely an internal affair of the SAR, and any foreign institution, including the European Parliament, has no right to interfere.

The SAR government will, as always, safeguard the freedom of the press and the basic rights of residents in accordance with the law, and ensure the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" with Macao characteristics and a long-term success.
