Bobby Charlton, world champion with England in 1966 and
Manchester United

, has been diagnosed with dementia.
Manchester United reported the player's illness and assured that everyone at the club "is very affected by the news" and that they will give "love and support" both to him and to his family.
Charlton, 83, spent 17 years at Manchester United, a team with which he played
758 games and scored 249 goals
.
With the 'Red Devils' he won three English leagues, an FA Cup and a European Cup.
In addition, he was
one of the survivors of the Munich plane crash in 1958
that ended with the death of eight of the team members.
With the English team, Charlton played
106 games and scored 49 goals
, being, until Wayne Rooney's explosion, the top scorer in the history of England.
He was part of the team that was crowned world champion in the tournament held in England.

In July, Charlton's brother Jack passed away, also diagnosed with dementia.
