The last victim found in Surfside, final death toll of 98

The latest victim of a building collapse in Florida has been identified, local authorities said Monday, just over a month after the disaster that left a total of 98 people dead.

"Thanks to the heroic efforts (of the rescue teams), the last missing person has been located and identified," said Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade County, at a press conference.

She said police continued to search for evidence and human remains among tons of rubble evacuated to a warehouse.

Structural flaw ignored

The last victim was identified by the police as Estelle Hedaya.

According to the latter's brother, quoted by the

, the 54-year-old woman had just moved to Florida from New York.

The Champlain Towers South building, overlooking the Surfside waterfront, north of Miami Beach, partially collapsed on June 24 in the middle of the night.

If, a month after the disaster, its reasons are still unknown, the first elements of the investigation revealed that the structure of the building seemed in places degraded.
