The government is revising its bike plan for deconfinement upwards. He will bring the fund he created at the end of April to 60 million euros to encourage the French to practice cycling with a view to deconfinement, in order to avoid a massive transfer of public transport to the car, announced this Thursday the Minister of Ecological Transition Elisabeth Borne. "We have decided to triple this budget, to 60 million euros, and to target the million bikes reconditioned by the end of the year," she told Paris Match.

"A very simple device that works"

Initially endowed with 20 million euros, this fund makes it possible to finance aid of 50 euros for the repair of a bicycle (change of chain, brakes, tires, derailleur, etc.) within a referenced network of repairers, listed on the website of the Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB) and a dedicated platform.

It is also used to finance temporary parking spaces and training to learn or relearn how to ride a bicycle. "This is an example of a very simple device, set up with federations of associations, and which works", underlined the minister.

A boost for the electric?

According to the magazine, the package of 50 euros has already been requested for more than 62,400 cycles. “I've been fighting for a long time to change the way I look at the bike, especially since 60% of trips are less than 5 kilometers. In just a few weeks, this crisis has saved years of cycling policy! ", She welcomed.

Elisabeth Borne also plans to include in the recovery plan a bonus for the purchase of electric bike, simpler than the current one, according to Paris Match.
