  • Pandemic. 17 different regional models to fight the same enemy

The Council of Ministers today approved the decree that will implement a new state of alarm throughout Spain to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The rule, which will be explained by the President of the Government in a public appearance, will impose a night curfew, as they already plan to implement a good number of autonomous communities, in addition to other measures that will limit the movements of citizens.

The intention of the Executive is that this new state of alarm - the fourth that is approved in democracy - lasts at least until the Immaculate Bridge, in December, so that Spain arrives in the best possible conditions for Christmas.

The declaration of the third state of alarm launched by the Government to stop the virus has been preceded by a general increase in the number of infections and a significant increase in hospital pressure throughout Spain.

On Friday, after an appearance in which Pedro Sánchez did not announce any measure, up to eight regional presidents announced their intention to request a new declaration of the state of alarm, in principle to establish a curfew that limits mobility at night.

Five socialist autonomous governments -Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Navarra, Asturias and La Rioja-, in addition to those of Euskadi, Catalonia and Cantabria, demanded a decentralized state of alarm from the Government, in which the regional executives will assume command in your community.

Before this regional petition, the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, demanded that Sánchez approve this measure.

The president of Cs called Sánchez by phone, asked him to take command of the fight against the pandemic and urgently summoned his leadership before making a public call to declare the state of alarm again.

The PP has so far resisted supporting the implementation of this constitutional tool.

None of its regional governments have claimed it and the PP itself has said that it is not going to "give in to blackmail" that it understands that the socialist government did.
