The first lady of America undergoes a "successful" medical procedure in the foot after sustaining a deep wound

US First Lady Jill Biden underwent a "successful" procedure on Thursday to remove an object in her left foot that caused a deep wound, a spokesman said.

Her spokesman Michael Larosa said Thursday that the first lady was walking on a beach in Hawaii over the weekend when something got into her left foot.

"After the medical staff examined the wound, it was not clear what caused the wound... The wound is now clean and free of infection and is expected to heal well," he added.

She underwent the procedure at Walter Reed Military Medical Center.
