Previously, 74 cases have been linked to the Paralympics, they have all concerned local employees and none of them have affected the Paralympics village.

During the Olympics, 546 cases of infection were reported.

Just like during the Olympics, the residents of the active village will undergo extensive testing and will have to wear mouth guards.

And as during the Olympics, no audience will be allowed in the stands.

In recent days, Japan has seen a marked increase in the number of infected - over 20,000 per day - and 13 prefectures and regions have severe restrictions.

The Paralympics will be inaugurated on Tuesday.
