The first comment from the Egyptian Minister of Transport after the Toukh train accident
The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, went to the site of the Toukh train accident today, Sunday, to inspect the site of the accident and find out the circumstances of its occurrence.
Local media quoted the minister as asserting that "all those responsible for the accident are held accountable, saying that he" will not run away from bearing responsibility. "
He added, “We are working day and night to develop the railway system to provide distinct services to the traveling public,” indicating that the traction system of wagons and tractors is being developed to reduce train accidents, stressing that railway trains carry about one million passengers per day.
The minister directed the formation of a technical committee to find out the reasons for the derailment of two cars from Train No. 949 (Cairo - Mansoura).
The Toukh center in Qalyubia governorate, north of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, this afternoon, a number of train cars overturned, which resulted in deaths and injuries.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that the accident resulted in the injury of 97 people, while local media reported that 8 people were killed.
An official source at the Railways Authority told the Masrawy website that the train No. 949, “Cairo - Mansoura,” derailed near the Toukh station.
