He added that in Russia they adhere to the principle that “the Minsk agreements have no alternative”, and expect that they will still be implemented.

The senator also noted that the extremist wing, "which now rules both in the Verkhovna Rada, and around the president, and in the government," is extremely negative towards the southeast of Ukraine.

“They do not want to give any guarantees of security… And in general, in my opinion, they are not going to return their citizens to the life of the Ukrainian state,” the senator concluded.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the appeal of the State Duma on the need to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics, recalled that there was no alternative to the Minsk agreements.
