The Ministry of Economy announced a voluntary withdrawal campaign that includes 689 digital video surveillance devices for children, produced between January 2016 and March 2018, in cooperation with the Philips Middle East Company and the Judge Foundation, the official distributor of Philips Avent products in the region. The ministry said in a report issued yesterday that the campaign came after communicating with "Philips Middle East", as it was discovered that in rare cases, the battery in the unit designated for follow-up from parents is exposed to excessive warming when connected to an electrical source, which constitutes a risk of possible fire.
The ministry called on people who have a defective device to stop using it, and contact the company’s local consumer care center, to replace the devices free of charge to the affected consumers. She emphasized that the recall process came in coordination with the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, and in line with the Ministry's keenness to conduct a continuous review of all products offered in the UAE markets, and provide the necessary protection to consumers.
