After crossing the desert for two years, linked to the coronavirus crisis, the economy of Hauts-de-France has finally regained color.
According to a statistical study by INSEE, the five departments of the region returned to their pre-crisis level of economic activity at the end of 2021.
The first indicator used by INSEE is the number of paid hours.
According to the latest figures, published last November, this indicator is on the rise and even exceeds its December 2019 level by 2.3%. Unsurprisingly, the bottom of the wave was observed in March, April and May 2020, during the first containment.
All sectors of activity remained in the red, however, albeit to a lesser extent, until last June with the exception of industry, which only returned to positive territory in October 2021.
An unemployment rate slightly below 10%
As seen at national level, business creation in Hauts-de-France is also doing well.
Their number is 13% higher at the time when the Covid-19 did not exist.
In this area, it is also interesting to note that business failures are still on the decline.
It should also be noted that salaried employment, driven by the market services sector, increased slightly (+0.3%) in the 3rd quarter of 2021. At the same time, over the same period, INSEE noted a rising unemployment rate compared to the previous quarter but which remains below 10%, i.e. below the level reached in the 4th quarter of 2019.
