The Dutch Foreign Ministry announced that the wife of the Dutch ambassador to Lebanon died today, Saturday, of serious injuries sustained in the massive explosion that occurred in Beirut port last Tuesday.

The ministry said in a statement on its website today, that the ambassador's wife was injured in the explosion while standing next to her husband in the living room of their home in Beirut and later died.

She added, "We are deeply saddened by the early death of Hedwig and Altmans Mollier as a result of the huge explosion in Beirut. Our sympathy is with her husband, their children and family members, and we wish them all the strength to face this heavy loss."

The explosion caused serious damage to the Dutch embassy and injured four other persons in connection with the embassy.
