The death of the chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat

The secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organization and chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, died at the age of 65 in the Israeli Hadassah Hospital due to infection with the new Corona virus, according to what the Palestinian presidency announced.

Erekat, who had previously undergone a lung transplant, was hospitalized on October 18 in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian presidency called Erekat, announcing mourning, for flags at half-mast for three days.

The obituary statement stated that Saeb Erekat "spent his life as a fighter and a hard negotiator defending Palestine, its cause, its people, and its independent national decision."

The hospital he was transferred to had described his condition as "critical" and he was placed on ventilators.

Erekat suffered more than three years ago from lung problems, and underwent a lung transplant in an American hospital.
