Starting at sunrise on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, the pilgrims of the Sacred House of God begin to flock to the level of Arafat to perform the greatest pillar of Hajj, which is standing in Arafat, after spending the day of Tarwiyah (the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah) in the holy city of Mina.

And the day of Arafat is one of the greatest days of God, in which slips are forgiven, and supplications are answered, and it is the day of perfecting the religion and completing blessings for Muslims, and God made it as a prelude to the Day of Sacrifice, and its virtues, exploits and legitimate actions were mentioned in it - for the pilgrim and for the non-pilgrim - many prophetic hadiths.

best days

It was narrated in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Aisha - may God be pleased with her - that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: “There is no more day on which God frees a slave from the Fire than the day of Arafa, and he is approaching, then he brags about them to the angels, and says: What did these want? ".

And in the Musnad of Ahmad and Sahih Ibn Hibban and Mustadrak al-Hakim from the hadith of Abu Hurairah - may God be pleased with him - that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “God is proud of the people of Arafat, the people of heaven, and he says to them: Look at my servants, they came to me in the dust.”

Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, al-Bazzar, Abu Ya’la and al-Bayhaqi narrated on the authority of Jaber, may God be pleased with him, also with a chain of transmission traceable to him: “There is no day better in the sight of God than the day of Arafa. They came from every deep ravine, hoping for My mercy, and they did not see My punishment, for they did not see a day more free from Hellfire than the Day of Arafat.

As stated in the book of Hajj in the Muwatta of Imam Malik that the Day of Arafa is the day on which “Shaitan has not seen a day in which he is younger, nor defeated, nor despicable, nor more enraged than him on the Day of Arafat, and that is only when he sees whom mercy descends and God pardons the great sins ".

The famous day

Among the greatness of the Day of Arafat is that God swore by it in His Book. It is what is meant by the witnessed day in the Almighty’s saying: “And the sky with the constellations, and the Promised Day, witnessing and witnessing” (Al-Buruj 1-3), and on the authority of Abu Hurairah - may God be pleased with him- that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him He said, “The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, and the witnessed day is the Day of Arafat, and the witness is Friday.” (Al-Tirmidhi and Al-Albani graded it as good).

Some commentators also said that the Day of Arafat is the Witr that God swore by in His saying “And the pre-emption and the Witr.” Ibn Abbas - may God be pleased with them both said — “The pre-emption is on the Day of Al-Adha, and the Witr is the Day of Arafa.”

The day of completion of religion and completion of grace

It came in the two Sahihs on the authority of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab - may God be pleased with him - that a man from the Jews said to him: O Commander of the Faithful, a verse in your book that you would read, if the Jews were revealed to us, we would have taken that day as a holiday. He said: Which verse?

He said, “Today I have perfected your religion for you, and I have completed My favor upon you, and I have approved Islam for you as your religion.” (Surat Al-Ma’idah: from verse 3), Omar said: We have known that day and the place in which it was revealed to the Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – while he was standing in Arafat on Friday.

And the completion of the religion on that day took place, because the Muslims had not performed the Hajj of Islam before, so their religion was perfected by that for their completion of the work of all the pillars of Islam, and because God restored the Hajj on the foundations of Abraham, peace be upon him, and denied polytheism and its people.

As for the completion of the blessing, it is achieved through forgiveness, and the blessing is not complete without it, as God Almighty said to His Prophet, “so that God may forgive you for your past and future sins and complete His blessing upon you” (Surat Al-Fath: from verse 2).

Day of supplication and remembrance

The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafa, and the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is there is no god but God alone, without partner, to Him belongs the kingdom and His is praise, and He has power over all things” (narrated by al-Tirmidhi).

One of the reasons for mercy and forgiveness on the Day of Arafat is a lot of remembrance and supplication, especially the testimony of monotheism, as it is the basis of the religion of Islam that God Almighty perfected and perfected on that day.

And the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “Fasting on a day known to him. I hope that God will expiate for the year before it and the year after it.” (Narrated by Muslim), and it is desirable - as in the rest of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah - to do a lot of good deeds such as naafil prayers, charity, fasting and remembrance and others.

And he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to God than these days,” meaning the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. They said: O Messenger of God, nor jihad for the sake of God?

He said: Not even jihad for the sake of God, except for a man who went out with himself and his money, and did not return with anything of that” (Bukhari).

The day of the greatest pilgrimage

The day of Arafat is also known as the day of the greatest pilgrimage, as in it the pilgrims perform the greatest pillar of the pilgrimage, which is standing on the level of Arafat and a lot of remembrance and supplication, a pillar without which the pilgrimage is not valid.

What is meant by standing in Arafat is attendance and not standing on the feet, so the pilgrim can sit or lie down if that is more comfortable for him, and all of Arafat is a standing position as the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, and there is no place in it specifically for that and not others, and the condition is that standing is within the known limits of the hair Arafat, and continues until sunset.

Legitimate actions on the day of Arafah

Fasting for non-pilgrims

It was reported that his fasting - for non-pilgrims - expiates God by it for the past year and the rest, and what is meant by this is the expiation of minor sins, for the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Fasting the day of Arafa, I hope that God will expiate for the year before it and the year after it.”

As for the pilgrim, he should not fast until he is strong enough to stand and remember God Almighty at the level of Arafat, which is the day of forgiveness of sins and emancipation from the fire, and bragging about the people of the situation.

It is desirable for the pilgrim on the Day of Arafat to pray the Zuhr and Asr prayers combined and shortened at the time of Zuhr (two units of prayer).

Zoom

The scholars stated that the takbeer is divided into two parts: an absolute takbeer, which takes place in all the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and in all times.

The second section is a restricted takbeer that takes place after the obligatory prayers, and starts from the dawn of the day of Arafat until the last days of al-Tashreeq (11, 12 and 13 of Dhul-Hijjah).

The takbeer has been mentioned in several forms, all of which meet the requirements, including:

God is great, God is great, God is great.

God is great, God is great, there is no god but God.. God is great, God is great, praise be to God.

God is great, God is great, God is great, there is no god but God.. God is great, God is great, praise be to God.

The matter regarding the takbeer is broad, as the people of knowledge said, and what is required is to establish the remembrance of God on that day and a lot of it.

Lots of remembrance and prayer

It is desirable on the day of Arafat to do a lot of remembrance and supplication, as he, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: “The best supplication is the supplication on the day of Arafat, and the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is: There is no god but God alone who has no partner, to Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him is praise, and He has power over all things.” Narrated by the owners of the Sunan).

It is also necessary to recite the talbiyah a lot in a loud voice: “Oh God, to you.. to you. There is no partner for you.. to you.. praise.. and grace.. yours and the king.. you have no partner,” as well as a lot of asking for forgiveness and praying for the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him.

The Muslim should come up with all these adhkaar, sometimes he cheers, sometimes he says takbeer, sometimes he swims, sometimes he reads the Qur’an, sometimes he prays to the Prophet, sometimes he prays, and sometimes he asks for forgiveness.

Ibn Abd al-Barr narrated with his chain of transmission on the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, who said: “The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, stood at Arafat, and the sun was about to repent, so he said: O Bilal! So the people listened, and he said: People, Gabriel came to me earlier, and he recited to me from my Lord peace, and said: God has forgiven the people of Arafat and the people of Al-Mash’ar, and has ensured for them the consequences. So Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, got up and said: O Messenger of God, this is for us special. He said: This is for you, and for those who come after you until the Day of Resurrection. Then Omar, may God be pleased with him, said: God's goodness is abundant and good.
