• Canceled in 2020 and postponed to July last year, in the face of the pandemic, the Cannes Film Festival would finally be back at cruising speed.

  • The hotels are already showing "full on the first week, all categories combined".

  • And proof that Cannes is still successful, newcomers have even been announced.

L'Arc, a Parisian nightclub on the Champs-Élysées, sets up its DJs on rue Macé throughout the festival.

The armadas of Americans (and Tom Cruise) are back, many evenings announced, accommodations full... For several weeks, the signals have not been wrong on the Croisette: "it's going to be a big festival", testify several economic actors of the High mass of cinema which returns this Tuesday evening in its traditional format.

Canceled in 2020 and postponed to July last year, because of the Covid-19, the Cannes Film Festival would finally be back at cruising speed.

The indicators are in any case green.

With the restrictions eased in the majority of countries around the world, the end of distancing and the obligation to wear a mask, the Croisette wants to have fun again.

“Similar to pre-Covid years”

The town hall, which processes requests for the privatization of public space, for the organization of events, recorded for this 75th edition a number "similar to the pre-Covid years".

“The big parties are coming back”, confirms the town hall where we talk about “dinners of the professional unions” and “evenings of the festival partners” for example.

Magnum, which organizes some of the most popular fiestas on the Croisette, is also making a comeback, in a smaller format.

“We will be there from Wednesday evening to Friday evening before leaving to focus on Roland-Garros, of which we are partners”, explains Frédéric Henry, the communication manager of the ice cream brand.

Thursday evening, she should make a big splash by inviting her new muse, Kylie Minogue, to perform on her beach.

Proof that Cannes is still successful, newcomers have even been announced.

L'Arc, a Parisian nightclub on the Champs-Élysées, sets up its DJs on rue Macé throughout the festival.

Established in Paris, Val d'Isère and Ramatuelle, the Loulou restaurant is also arriving on the Croisette.

He arrives on the roof terrace of the JW Marriott, at the home of the popess of Cannes evenings, Albane Cléret, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary at the festival this year.

Hotels are “even struggling to meet demand”

And despite the virtual absence of Asian, Oceanian and Russian customers, the city is going to fill up.

The town hall notes that the level of hotel reservations is even "better than in 2019".

The establishments are already showing "complete for the first week, all categories combined".

A renewed enthusiasm to also put into perspective with the unavailability of the 343 rooms of the Calrton, under construction until 2023.

“We are doing better than in 2019. We are even having trouble meeting demand,” confirms the boss of Martinez, Yann Gillet, who is taking advantage of the Cannes Film Festival to launch the Oasis, his new wellness area.

And the manager specifies that “the absence of customers from Asia and Australia is largely compensated by a significant jump in visitors from South America”.

The results of this 2022 edition will in any case be eagerly awaited.

The whole city hopes to derive a windfall at least as large as in 2019, with economic benefits then estimated at 196 million euros.
