This was reported on the website of the UK Department of Transport.

The relevant issues are expected to be resolved by issuing 5,000 short-term visas for truck drivers and 5,500 visas for poultry farm workers.

"5,000 truck drivers and 5,500 poultry workers have been added to the existing visa scheme until Christmas 2021 to reduce the pressure on food and transport supply chains in exceptional circumstances this year," the agency said in a statement.

Recruitment for the new program will start in October and will last until the end of the year.

At the same time, the authorities admit that the measures taken are not a long-term solution to the problem.
