"Kaohsiung·Beijing Characteristic Week" is a brand event for people-to-people exchanges between Beijing and Taiwan. Since it was first held during the Lantern Festival in 2011, it has been held in Kaohsiung for 9 consecutive sessions. Later, it was changed to an online format due to the epidemic.

The theme of this event is the Beijing Winter Olympics. Students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will exchange paintings with the theme of "Towards the Future Together"; Taiwanese youths participating in the Winter Olympics volunteer service will share stories about the Winter Olympics "a letter from home"; The inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage projects will bring live performances, etc.

Peng Xiaoping, a Beijing folk arts and crafts artist and inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of miniature walnut noodles, told a reporter from Chinanews.com that he will lead Kaohsiung people to make the Beijing Winter Olympics mascot "Bingdundun" dough sculpture through video connection during the event.

Since 2009, he has traveled to Taiwan 9 times to participate in the cultural exchange of intangible cultural heritage, and the miniature walnut noodles he made are loved by the local people.

Peng Xiaoping believes that the use of intangible cultural heritage as a medium can deepen the cultural exchanges and recognition of compatriots on both sides of the strait.

In previous events, Beijing traditional food and cultural performances entered Kaohsiung, attracting tens of thousands of Taiwan compatriots to watch and experience.

Xu Yang, the intangible inheritor of Beijing paper-cutting, has been to Taiwan 12 times. In late 2018 and early 2019, he participated in offline cultural week activities at Kaohsiung Banana Wharf.

"The family has the same culture, and there is no estrangement in communication," Xu Yang recalled. At that time, Kaohsiung people were very enthusiastic about participating. The paper-cut art he brought was sold out. The long queue said, "They are deeply attracted by traditional Chinese food and art. This is also a manifestation of the common ancestors of the people on both sides of the strait, and the family on both sides of the strait."

After 11 years of hard work, "Kaohsiung·Beijing Characteristic Week" has become an important platform for promoting traditional Chinese culture, introducing the development achievements of the mainland, telling the "Beijing story" well, enriching the cultural and recreational life of Taiwanese people, and promoting emotional exchanges between compatriots on both sides of the strait.

This year's "Kaohsiung·Beijing Feature Week" will take the form of a combination of online and offline, holding 1 theme exchange and 4 thematic exchanges, creating an interactive and interesting "Online Feature Week".
