The Swedish Prison and Probation Service cannot comment on individual inmates due to confidentiality, but generally describes why inmates who serve long sentences in security institutions may need to be relocated.

- It can have different reasons.

Among other things, negligence or during longer stays, the inmate may need to change environment and meet other faces.

It may also be needed because a group constellation of inmates does not work together.

Staff may also need to change environment.

Longer stays can put a strain on the staff, says Tatjana Johansen, acting head of placement at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

According to Tatjana Johansen, it can also be a matter of different institutions offering different programs that may be needed for the inmate to complete his planning for the time he is in prison, such as education, forms of therapy or work activities.
