Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Association of Taxpayers Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has considerable doubts about the future of shipbuilding in the northeast and therefore rejects further state aid for the shipyards.
"The state is following the development, instead of actively taking care of a sustainable location policy," declared state manager Diana Behr on Friday in Schwerin.
It reacted to the decision of the state parliament from the previous day.
The interim financing plans in the amount of 44 million euros were put on the table in a fast-track procedure, although many questions were still open.
The announced report on the business situation of Genting Hong Kong, the owner of MV Werften, is still missing.
It is unclear what the group itself wants to contribute to closing the funding gap at the shipyards.
The cruise industry is changing, sustainability, climate friendliness and gentle tourism are the challenges.
"Against this background, we do not see a sustainable concept for cruise ship construction in Germany and especially for the locations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania," stated Behr.
In the past, the federal and state governments have already paid millions of euros to rescue the shipyards without actually achieving the goal.
According to Economics Minister Harry Glawe (CDU), the country is considering granting a loan of up to 44 million euros to ensure the continued construction of the Global 1 cruise ship destined for the Asian market.
Shipyard properties in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund are to serve as collateral.
The money should flow in April, if the own funds of the Asian parent company Genting are not sufficient.
The ship Global 1, which will be one of the largest cruise liners in the world with a length of around 340 meters and up to 9500 passengers, is awaiting completion in Wismar.
