The arrival of the Mediapro group and its Téléfoot channel on the French football television rights market is shaking up the habits of viewers, who are now forced to increase subscriptions if they do not want to miss out on European football.

- Who has what? -

The most important football competitions of the 2020-2021 season are divided between four main pay TV channels, with a new entrant, Téléfoot, and former pillars who are losing rights (Canal + and beIN Sports):

- Ligue 1: Téléfoot (8 matches per day, including the 10 best posters of the season), Canal + (2 matches per day)

- Ligue 2: Téléfoot (8 matches per day), beIN Sports (2 matches per day)

- Coupe de France: Eurosport and France Télévisions

- Champions League: RMC Sport and Téléfoot (all matches)

- Europa League: RMC Sport and Téléfoot (all matches)

- English Championship: RMC Sport and Canal +

- Spanish, German and Italian Championships: beIN Sports

- Matches of the French men's team: TF1 and M6

- Matches of the French women's team: group M6

- Euro-2020 (postponed to June 2021): TF1, M6 and beIN Sports

- What offers and at what price? -

Alone, Téléfoot will cost 29.90 euros per month without commitment, or 25.90 euros with a one-year commitment. For 29.90 euros with a one-year commitment, the subscriber can also have Netflix. A smartphone and tablet only offer, without the Champions League, is also available at 14.90 euros per month. The channel's app is available on Apple platforms and will soon be on Android.

Thanks to an agreement signed with Altice, the parent company of SFR, the subscriber to SFR boxes will be able, for 29.90 euros per month without obligation, to have RMC Sport in addition to Téléfoot. SFR also has an agreement with beIN Sports, but has not unveiled a possible RMC Sport-beIN-Téléfoot "pack". Téléfoot will also be available via Bouygues, and discussions are underway, particularly with Facebook.

Canal +, it will cost between 19.90 euros per month and 24.90 euros. Coupled with its "sport pack", including notably beIN Sports and Eurosport, it will be necessary to add 15 euros per month, for an offer which will not however include the Champions League, held by RMC and Téléfoot. Discounts are offered to those under 26, and the RMC Sport channel is also available for 25 euros per month, but only for subscribers with a Canal decoder (reception via satellite).

beIN Sports is also available on its own on the internet (beIN Sports Connect) or via most TV operators, for around fifteen euros per month.

- New upheaval next season? -

Already complex, the subscription strategy of the amateur football television viewer will have to integrate another major aspect: the following season. Because the landscape will be completely turned upside down again.

If Téléfoot has secured Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 until 2024, the Champions League will completely change its broadcaster next summer, since it will be visible on Canal + and beIN Sports, precisely the two players who will not broadcast it. not in 2020-21. For the Europa League, exit RMC Sport also, place at Canal +, Téléfoot, and W9 for one meeting per week in clear.

As for the major foreign championships, only England has already been awarded (Canal + and RMC Sport). But this is still the unknown for the Spanish, Italian and German Leagues ... New puzzle in perspective.
