Read more" Eight raids targeted (Saturday evening) the headquarters of pro-Iranian forces in eastern Deir Ezzor province, killing twelve Iraqi and Afghan fighters, and destroying vehicles and ammunition, " said the Syrian Observatory. of human rights (OSDH) in a press release.
OSDH director Rami Abdel Rahmane told Agence France-Presse that Israel was " probably " responsible for the strikes.
According to the OSDH, which has a wide network of sources in war-torn Syria, the latest strikes came after Afghan forces provided reinforcements near the Iraqi border at a large Iranian base near the city of Al-Mayadin on the Euphrates.
Many strikes attributed to Israel
Israel rarely confirms its attacks in Syria but regularly insists that it will not let this country become the bridgehead of Tehran, the main regional supporter of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Since the start of the conflict in neighboring Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out numerous raids against the forces of the Syrian regime but also its allies, Iran and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, two enemies of the Hebrew state.
Recently, military positions belonging to Iranian forces and pro-government groups have been targeted on several occasions, particularly in the Deir Ezzor region. On May 31, at least five non-Syrian fighters were killed in an air strike in eastern Syria, attributed to Israel. Iranian, Iraqi and pro-Damascus forces are deployed over a large area in the east of Deir Ezzor province, particularly between the border towns of Boukamal and Al-Mayadin.
