Syria.. 45,000 displaced people after the Ghweran attack

About 45,000 people have been displaced from their homes in northeastern Syria since the start of the battles between Kurdish forces and ISIS, following an attack launched by the latter on a prison holding detainees from it, according to the United Nations, on Monday.

And the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced that "up to 45,000 people have been displaced from their homes to other neighborhoods" from the city of Hasaka, since the start of the extremist organization's attack on Ghweran prison on Thursday evening.

For the fifth day in a row, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are trying, along with the international coalition forces, to eliminate terrorist elements who tried to smuggle ISIS prisoners.

On Thursday evening, more than a hundred ISIS fighters launched an attack on Ghweran prison, which is controlled by Kurdish forces in Hasaka province, and an unknown number of extremists managed to escape from it, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

However, the organization's propaganda agency, Amaq, reported that 800 members had fled.

The ISIS attack, which began a few days ago on a prison under the control of Kurdish forces, highlights the fragility of overcrowded prisons that are difficult to secure while serving as a hotbed for jihadists, while the international coalition that fought them has become a relic of the past.

As of Sunday evening, 45 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Kurdish forces and prison guards were killed in this attack, which was followed by battles and was still continuing on Monday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
