Two Marseilles police officers sentenced to prison terms at first instance for beating a teenager were suspended, one month after their conviction. Until Thursday, they continued to exercise their profession, within the Company of intervention and security (CSI), as revealed by 20 Minutes in an article published this Thursday, that is to say the day when came into force this suspension.
The victim's lawyer, Linda Sennaoui, who had written to the Minister of the Interior on June 8 to denounce the situation, believes that "it was the phone call from the journalist from 20 Minutes that precipitated the suspension" .
Four years in prison
The departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) received two suspension orders on Wednesday concerning these two police officers, said a spokesperson for the DDSP of Bouches-du-Rhône. The latter ensures that the deadline "corresponds to the time of the procedure: it does not happen overnight".
On May 14, the Marseille court sentenced the two men to four years in prison, two of which were closed, for kicking and punching a 16-year-old young man who went out to shop at a grocery store at night in February 2018. They have appealed this conviction and are free.
