Two people were killed and one injured on Friday morning in the city of Almelo in the east of the Netherlands.

A suspect is a man who shot a crossbow from his balcony.

The police fired several shots while attempting to arrest the suspect.

Residents were asked to stay away from the crime scene. 

Local media in the Dutch province of Overijssel also reported that a body had been found in the man's apartment. 

Local residents told the Dutch daily Tubantia that they heard several gunshots.

According to the newspaper, six ambulances and six police cars were in use.

A tactical team from the Overijssel police was also on site.

The suspect has since been arrested, according to the police, he was injured.

The investigation continues.
