The Global Odds Index, through the company Magmatic Research, has conducted a computer study that examines the probability of becoming a professional athlete in a number of popular and global sports.
The study is distributed by country of birth and which countries have the highest proportion of top athletes in each sport.
Sweden tops the odds in golf before Iceland and Denmark.
The Nordic climate plays a crucial role in the odds of becoming professionals in those countries being low.
- Despite long cold winters, parts of Sweden, Finland and Iceland benefit from having 24-hour daylight in the summer, which enables maximum training time during these months, says Cristian Heidarson, data analyst at Magmatic Research.
When it comes to the largest proportion of professionals globally, the United States is superior, just over 23 percent of the players come from the United States.
Britain is second on the list with around ten percent, ahead of Japan at about eight.
