Study: The fourth dose provides great protection from corona

A new British study indicated that a fourth dose of vaccines against the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) gives people a higher protection than that provided by the three doses.

Research is continuing to assess the levels of protection people enjoy after vaccination, and the length of time this protection lasts, according to the British news agency (PA Media).

A team of academics led by the University of Southampton tracked a group of people and their levels of antibodies and T cells, both measures that indicate a person's level of protection from the virus.

About 166 people took part in the study and provided blood samples, which means scientists can check the concentration of antibodies in the blood.

The examination was performed at various time points, including 28 days after the third dose was given, and again just before the fourth dose, which occurred on average just over 200 days later, and then 14 days after they received the fourth dose.

Antibody levels decreased between the third dose and the fourth booster dose.

But two weeks after the fourth booster dose, antibody levels rose above the levels seen after the third dose.

The researchers examined data on people who received two doses of AstraZeneca, then a third booster dose of Pfizer, and who then received either a dose of Pfizer or half a dose of Moderna vaccine in the fourth booster dose.

No severe side effects were recorded among the participants, with some reporting pain or fatigue.
