The start-up location Hessen has made up ground compared to other federal states: In the first half of 2021, Hessian start-ups collected a total of 128 million euros, as the management consultancy EY has analyzed in the current start-up barometer.
This time, a little more money went to Hesse than to Hamburg (110 million euros).
The largest single sums went to the Frankfurt insurance app Clark with 69 million euros and the Darmstadt drone developer Wingcopter, who received 18 million euros.

In a comparison of the federal states, Hesse is still only in sixth place in the middle field, behind Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.
By far the front runner is still Berlin, startups there have collected more than four billion euros, that is more than half of all funds for German founders.
Bavarian start-ups received 2.5 billion euros - out of 7.6 billion euros nationwide.
Berlin is the fintech capital
The banking capital Frankfurt in particular relies heavily on young financial technology companies, such as the Tech Quartier start-up center.
Investors, however, are primarily interested in fintech founders in Berlin: together, fintechs in Berlin received more than 1.6 billion of the total of more than two billion euros that donors transferred to German financial technology companies alone.
The largest individual sums in the first half of the year went to the Munich software company Celonis and the Berlin fintechs Trade Republic and Wefox, each with more than half a billion euros.
