Spain is gradually reopening its borders, but not to everyone. Algerian, Moroccan and Chinese travelers will remain stranded at the gates of the country as long as these countries do not allow visitors from Spain to enter.
The decree allowing the opening of the borders to the fifteen countries appearing on the list published by the European Union on June 30 will enter into force at midnight "in the night from Friday to Saturday", allowing the effective entry of the residents of these States, says a statement from the Interior Ministry. But "in the case of China, Morocco and Algeria, the reopening of borders remains conditional on reciprocal action on the part of these countries and the reopening of their borders to residents in Spain," said the ministry.
Impossible summer migrations
The borders remaining closed, the great migration of millions of Moroccans and Algerians living in Europe who every summer cross Spain to spend the holidays in their country of origin did not take place this year. Meanwhile, the land border crossings of the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in Morocco will remain closed, the statement said.

A list different from that of the EU
A first list of 15 countries whose travelers can be admitted to the EU and the Schengen area was published on Tuesday, after difficult negotiations between member states. The European Commission has recommended immediately authorizing the entry of travelers from Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, and from China on condition.
However, EU countries remain free to apply this recommendation, which will be revised regularly. Hungary, for example, announced on Thursday that it does not currently plan to open its borders to these countries, while Slovenia also continues to impose restrictions.
