The

seventh wave of coronavirus

every week increasing its data.

At the gates of an eighth wave at the hands of the omicron subvariants:

BA.4 and BA.5, which have

caused the upward curve of infections in recent weeks, as shown by data from the Ministry of Health.

An uncertain panorama, where the sublineages of the virus behave differently from the original

omicron variant

and that makes experts consider renaming it Covid-22.

Spain has once again set the highest figures of the entire seventh wave, reaching the

highest number of positives for coronavirus

and the highest number of hospitalizations.

In the latest report, with data provided by the Autonomous Communities,

71,818 positive cases have been recorded,

twelve thousand fewer infections than three days ago (84,146), of which

40,083 have occurred in people over 60 years of age.

These data once again mark a downward trend compared to those published last Friday, which were by far the highest figure reached since before the beginning of summer.

Regarding the hospital situation, the occupation of beds continues to worsen.

Today,

Health has recorded 11,586 people hospitalized, a thousand more than three days ago, and 502 in the ICU.

These figures almost double the hospitalizations at the beginning of June (6,481, in the report of day 3).

Regarding the accumulated incidence of infections, the report published by the department of Darias indicates that there are

1,135.30 positives per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

The highest figure for months and double the incidence of early summer.

The report from early June determined that there were 586.71 positive people per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

A rate of contagion that brings the health situation in our country to the gates of the red light

(more than 1,500 positives per 100,000 inhabitants).

A point that had not been reached since previous waves, according to the risk assessment criteria imposed by the ministry.

If we look back a year, at the beginning of July 2021, 2,357 people had been hospitalized for coronavirus, compared to this entry in July,

today's situation quintuples the figures compared to the previous summer.

The same happens with the accumulated incidence, which has been increasing month after month despite the increase in vaccinated people and the measures that marked a return to "normality": popular celebrations, withdrawal of the mandatory use of masks, greater permissibility in travel between countries and full capacity in massive events.

The first week of

March,

the accumulated incidence amounted to

463.15 people

per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, a figure that would decrease the following month with

426.15 positives in the first week of April.

During the first week of May the data would worsen.

After celebrating Holy Week in a massive way, the data doubled the figures of the previous month with

813.22 positives of accumulated incidence.

After such festivities and the arrival of good weather, the mark dropped to almost half.

The first week of June, this data decreased to 586.7 people per 100,000 inhabitants.

And so far the best health brand.

Today, the first week of July, the figure doubles that last figure with 1,135.30

positives

per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

As for the deceased,

Health has 188 deaths in recent days, 19 people less than three days ago

(207).

The global death toll from coronavirus rises to 108,259 people since the start of the pandemic.
