The Montpellier Faculty of Medicine (Hérault) suspended part of its classes on Tuesday, around sixty students who tested positive for Covid-19 after a student party, AFP learned from corroborating sources.

Among the students diagnosed positive, 51 are in second year and seven in third year, according to the Syndicat de combat universitaire de Montpellier (Scum).

This suspension was decided for a period of 15 days, during which the students will be able to follow their courses at a distance.

The virus would have spread during a student party, told AFP the communication service of the University of Montpellier, on which the faculty of medicine depends.

All students who test positive are asymptomatic.

A promotion in quarantine at the IAE

At the same time, at the Institute of Business Administration (IAE), another component of the University of Montpellier, the suspected case of a student, who has not yet been tested, led the director to be placed in quarantine the entire promotion of third year.

All will also follow their courses at a distance.

In a press release, the Scum union deplores that at the University of Letters Paul-Valéry, the other university establishment in the city, students enrolled in the first year have had to follow "tight as sardines" pre-school meetings. re-entry "in overheated and crowded amphitheatres".
