Real Madrid suffered a blow to its defender captain Sergio Ramos in the calf during his participation with his country in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, according to what the player and the royal club said today.

The injury to the heart of the defense comes a few days before the meeting between Liverpool and England in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, and rivals Barcelona in the domestic league next week.

The 35-year-old played his 180th game for the Spanish national team when he came on as a substitute in the last minutes of the World Cup qualifiers 3-1 victory over Kosovo, but revealed that he felt the problem after the match.

This injury comes at a very important period for the French coach Zinedine Zidane's team, as he is invited to face Liverpool and rivals Barcelona on Tuesday in the 10 current league.

Ramos revealed that "after the match, I was training on the field and I felt pain in the calf of the left leg," adding on his Instagram page, "If there is anything that hurts me, it is my inability to help my team in these very demanding matches that we have to go through this season."

Real confirmed that his captain had a calf injury, but did not disclose how long he would need to recover, saying, "He was diagnosed with a muscle injury in the inner part of the left calf. We will monitor his recovery."

Zidane's team will meet Liverpool on Tuesday at the "Alfredo Di Stefano" stadium, to be a guest of the Premier League champions on April 14th.
