China News Service, Shanghai, January 27 (Zhou Zhuao and Zheng Yingying) On the 27th, SAIC Motor and Shanghai New Micro Technology R&D Center Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in Jiading, Shanghai. The two parties will jointly initiate the establishment of a scale of billions of yuan. The "Special Fund for Domestic Automotive Chips" jointly promotes the accelerated implementation of the "China Chip" at the vehicle level.

It is understood that SAIC will participate in the automotive chip engineering center initiated and established by Shanghai New Micro Technology R&D Center Co., Ltd. by way of fund investment.

The planning of the Automotive Chip Engineering Center includes a pilot test line (medium-scale production line before official mass production) and a mass production line for automotive-grade chips, to make up for the shortcomings of automotive chip design companies in process development and manufacturing, and to help design companies reduce product costs. Development investment, shorten the development cycle, and speed up the product launch process.

According to relevant personnel, after the establishment of the automotive chip engineering center, it will further improve the Shanghai automotive chip industry ecosystem and create a future-oriented "automotive electronics ecosystem".

In addition, the fund will actively promote the R&D and production of high-performance automotive chips, as well as investment in automotive electronics startup projects. In the future, it will become an open platform to attract more social funds to participate.

In the context of the chip shortage in 2021 and the high-quality development of the automotive industry, the project coincides with the industrial layout of Shanghai.

Previously, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng pointed out at a press conference after the closing of the sixth session of the 15th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress that Shanghai is stepping up efforts to deploy the production of automotive-grade chips to solve the problem of "lack of cores" in automobiles as soon as possible.

The reporter learned from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology that in 2022, Shanghai will continue to step up efforts to improve industry capabilities and create an industrial environment, and accelerate the development of Shanghai into a highland for the automotive electronic chip industry.
