Sex in times of pandemic: more foreplay, more masturbation and less one-night stands

This peculiar 2020 is heading down the stretch, in which we have learned to stay at home, to stay in small groups and, alas, not to touch each other.

Not to mention flirting.

The question that thousands of singles ask themselves every day across the globe has a difficult answer: if I can't even hug my mother, how do I flirt?

And yet it seems that in the sexual sphere, we Spaniards have ended up adapting to the circumstances.

Young people have found a way to maintain or even improve their sexual life, according to data from the 9th Barometer

from the condom firm

, which has focused on analyzing how the pandemic has influenced practices Spanish sex and what are the expectations to continue enjoying in 2021.

Nine out of ten Spaniards claim to have fully enjoyed their sexual relations during the pandemic.

44% say they have done it with their stable partner, 19% with their stable partner who is not living together and about 10% with a friend or close acquaintance.

'Slow sex': more time for the preliminaries

According to figures obtained from last year's study, 30% of Spaniards spent approximately 10 minutes on preliminaries.

This year the figure rises to 44%, and nearly 40% say they dedicate up to half an hour to it.

Spending more time at home seems to have encouraged

Regarding the duration of sexual intercourse, this year 42% of Spaniards dedicate at least half an hour to sex, and another 40% say they practice it for a full hour.

Goodbye to one night stands

Either because of our culture, our more open personality or because of the lip with which more than one copes at the wee hours of the morning, nightclubs topped the list of places where Spaniards met their sexual partners.

About 40% of those surveyed took advantage of these moments to flirt and meet their next appointments before the pandemic.

In addition, 29.7% did it through social networks, 20.5% through dating apps and 15.3% did it at work.

Now everything has changed.

The percentage of young Spaniards who use

(31.6%) and

(25.1%) increases, while telework annoys flirtations in the work environment (9.8%).

According to the study, in addition, before the pandemic 65.8% had sexual relations with acquaintances, a trend that has taken hold after the pandemic (61.3% continue to opt for former dates, friends of friends or even some forgotten contact in the agenda).

Regarding the New Year's wishes, 84.4% of Spaniards admit that they would like to experiment more with sex to get out of the routine.
