Hamburg (dpa) - Several suspected right-wing extremists were exposed in the Hamburg fire department.
In one case, a fire department official supported right-wing extremists on social media and repeatedly disseminated racist content, the fire department said on Saturday.
He was immediately prohibited from conducting official business and disciplinary investigations had been initiated.
In a second case, five fire service members are said to have exchanged unconstitutional symbols.
Investigations have also been initiated against them.
According to the fire brigade, the suspected right-wing extremists were exposed through information from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and through the reporting office for right-wing extremist activities that was set up at the State Criminal Police Office last November.
According to a report by the “Hamburger Abendblatt” (Saturday) and according to dpa information, the suspended firefighter is said to have been active in the WhatsApp group “Asgards Wölfe”, whose members spread right-wing extremist theses.
In the second case, according to the report, several officers from the operations center placed a swastika flag on a Turkish colleague's computer in an unobserved moment.

"Right-wing extremism has no place in the Hamburg fire brigade," said fire chief Christian Schwarz.
Discrimination of any kind is neither accepted nor tolerated.
Everyone is called upon to actively intervene when crossing borders, said Schwarz.
"This applies to personal attacks and also to attacks in social media or messenger groups."
The Hamburg fire brigade is the second largest in Germany with around 2,900 employees.
