The criminal court of Béziers (Hérault) sentenced a 42-year-old man in immediate appearance to 3 years in prison, including one year suspended, for the robbery of a mini-market on October 20, in the Hérault sub-prefecture.

The forty-something had demanded that the contents of the crate be handed over to him, his face hidden by a scarf and pointing a dummy handgun in the direction of the manager, while she was in the company of his 5-year-old daughter, reports Raphaël Balland, the public prosecutor of Béziers.

The man had been chased away, then overpowered by the victim's companion, supported by a witness, until the police arrived.

Psychiatric problems

A psychiatrist had declared the man criminally responsible, but had indicated that "his judgment was severely impaired due to psychiatric problems".

Locked up, the man also received a ban on holding a weapon, and an obligation to follow care, and will have to compensate the civil parties.
