A 22-year-old young man from Chambéry was tried in immediate appearance Monday by the court of Annecy (Haute-Savoie) for having kidnapped and threatened his victim.

Several weeks ago, the defendant had rented his Volkswagen T-Roc 4x4 on Snapchat and had found a customer.

But this would have damaged the vehicle, provoking the anger of its owner, reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

The attacker goes to the gendarmes

On September 17, the lessor therefore made an appointment with the 23-year-old man in Annecy-le-Vieux and asked him for the sum of 10,000 euros. Faced with the refusal of his interlocutor to pay, he sequestered him in his car, while threatening his relatives. The victim was finally found, "shocked", on the Chambéry basin. His attacker, already known to the police, went himself to the gendarmes who took him into custody.

Indicted for "kidnapping, forcible confinement, attempted extortion by violence, threat or constraint of signature, and violence", the man was sentenced to twenty months' imprisonment, including 12 months suspended and probationary follow-up by two years.

He will serve his sentence under an electronic bracelet.

He is prohibited from coming into contact with his victim and from holding a weapon for five years.

His 4x4 was also confiscated.
